Wakestock 2009 – Action sports and music fans were treated to a exciting mix of world class wakeboarding and incredible music to kick off "Wakestock Weekend" in Collingwood presented by Monster Energy today (Saturday)! Highlights included the Billabong Pro Wakeboard and Malibu Boats Pro Wakeskate Qualifications on the water and Social Distortion and Classified on the Monster Music Stage.
The Wakestock Action Sports Marketplace was jammed, the SBC Skatepark was packed and the Coors Light Beer Garden was full all day long as thousands checked out the new Wakestock venue at Millennium Park, Collingwood Harbour. The new site proved to be a big hit with Wakestock fans, athletes, and bands who were awed by its spectacularly scenic location overlooking the fresh blue waters of Georgian Bay below the towering hills of Blue Mountain.
Among the top pro wakeboarders who qualified for tomorrow's semi-finals was Canada's Rusty Malinoski the defending Wakestock champion and the 2008 WWA World champion; and the USA's Phillip Soven the 2008 WWA World Series overall champion and Wakestock 2007 champ. Both riders easily won their respective qualification heats setting the stage for another showdown between two of the world's best. But not before first overcoming strong challenges from three of wakeboarding hottest new talents: Aaron Rathy of Canada, Harley Clifford of Australia, and Bob Soven of the USA, Phillip's younger brother. The Billabong Pro Wakeboard Quarter-Finals take place Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm (see Start List below).
